Tiger Woods misses PGA practice to rest

Tiger Woods will head into the PGA Championship with only nine holes of practice under his belt this week after he chose to rest on Wednesday.

Woods’ agent insisted the Masters champion was “all good” as he explained his no-show at Bethpage Black on the final day of practice, claiming that the 43-year-old had done plenty of preparation ahead of the second major of the year.

The 15-time major winner played a full practice round at the course last week, but he added only nine holes on Monday and limited himself to range and putting drills on Tuesday.

In his pre-tournament press conference, Woods revealed he intended to play another nine holes on the eve of the tournament in the company of Harold Varner III.

But, although Woods’ caddie, Joe LaCava, was seen waiting by the practice green on Wednesday, Woods never showed although his manager was quick to allay any fears over his health.

“He’s all good, just getting some rest,” Mark Steinberg told ESPN.com. “He saw the course last week, all is good.”

A day earlier, Woods had said: “We came up here last week, took a look at it in detail and spent a lot of time on it. I played nine holes on Monday, and I’m going to take today off, I’ll practice a bit and I’ll play nine holes tomorrow, making sure I’m ready to go come Thursday.

“This is not only a big golf course, but this is going to be a long week the way the golf course is set up and potentially could play.”
