Tigoi confident of hockey title as national school games begin

Recently crowned Western region girls hockey champions Tigoi Gilrs have vowed to take home the national trophy to western region, the title that was won by Misikhu Girls last year.

Tigoi, the only school from Vihiga County to send a team for the nationals set to kick-off in Embu County from Tuesday, won the western region competition last month in Bungoma County, defeating former champions Misikhu Girls 1-0.

Speaking to Citizen Digital Tigoi Girls head coach, Moses Wawire says they are ready for the any challenge and have done enough preparations for the games.

“We have prepared the team well, since the conclusion of the western region competition. Our aim is to bring back the trophy to western and qualify for the East Africa championship. We know the competition at this level is quite high but we are ready for it,” he added.

Speaking on their opponents, Wawire has confidently said that they don’t fear any team and they take all teams equally.

“For a team to qualify for the nationals it’s a show that it’s a strong team. We therefore don’t any side for granted but we fear none. We want to win from the first match all the way to the final,” a confident Wawire offered.

Tigoi are in group B  alongside Marsabit Girls from Eastern region, Bura Girls from Coast region and Nyamira Girls from Nyanza Region.

They open their campaign on Tuesday against Marsabit Girls before playing Bura on Wednesday and finally Nyamira on Thursday.
