Tokyo Olympics: Ambaka confident of quarters spot despite opening loss

Shujaa ace Willy Ambaka believes they can still qualify for the Tokyo Olympics quarterfinals despite losing their opener against the USA Monday morning at the Tokyo Stadium in Japan.

Ambaka who saw his try turned away by match officials in the last minutes which would have given Kenya victory says they have beaten South Africa and Ireland in the past.

“We’ve played and won against all of them before, so we just need to focus on ourselves and make sure we get our boxes right and I’m pretty sure we’ll get positive results to progress to the next stage,” said Ambaka.

Ambaka says Shujaa have the necessary experience to get results in the final two group matches.

“We’ve an experienced squad but at the same time we have to be careful and don’t let our emotions carry us away so we’ve to stay calm and peaceful and I’m very sure we’ll get the results,” added Ambaka.

Ambaka alongside Kenya’s top try scorer Collins Injera, Captain Andrew Amonde and winger Billy ‘The Kid’ Odhiambo are the only players who featured for Shujaa at the Rio 2016 Olympics playing in the current Summer Games.

Shujaa take on South Africa Monday (today) at 1.00pm (EAT) before locking horns with Ireland at 5:00am Tuesday morning.
