Mary Moraa will carry Kenya’s hope of winning a medal in the women’s 800m after she qualified for the semifinals at the Tokyo Olympics on Friday.

Moraa, a former 400m specialist secured an automatic slot in Saturday’s semis when she finished third in the fourth heat clocking 2:01.66

Team Kenya Captain Eunice Sum was however eliminated at the preliminaries when she placed sixth in the second heat same as Emily Tuei who was eighth in the sixth heat.

Kenya is yet to win a gold medal in the women’s 800m since 2008.
