Top Kenya Cup sides set for Embu 7s as National sevens circuit looms

The fourth edition of Embu 7s was on Saturday launched at Njukiri Showground in Embu- one week to the showpiece.

Embu 7s will be held on Saturday July 6 and Sunday 7, 2019 at Njukuri in Embu according to host side Embu RFC.

A number of Kenya Cup and Championship sides will be using Embu 7s as a preparation for the national sevens circuit that kicks-off on July 20 with the inaugural Kakamega 7s hosted by Western Bulls and Kabras Sugar.

Embu RFC chairman Moses Mukabane expects Embu 7s to hand fans a wild rugby experience with Schools competition also on the roaster to add to the 16 elite teams for division 1.

“We have invited teams like Mean Machine, Kabras, Impala, Nondies, Homeboyz, KCB and locally based teams like Chuka Vikings as well as nationwide outfits Makueni RFC,” said Mukabane –a former Mean Machine player.

In 2018, Mean Machine bagged the Embu 7s title after beating Kenya Harlequin 12-7.

Mukabane says that the Stage is set for Embu 7s fourth edition dubbed wild rugby as elite’s teams confirm participation in the tournament which will kick off from 6-7 July 2019 at Njukuri grounds.

Other teams that graced the 2018 event include Nondies, Strathmore Leos, Kiambu RFC, Catholic Monks, Chuka Vikings, Meru RFC Siakago Gorillas and Rwika.

Embu RFC is a Kenya Rugby Union affiliate that competes in the Central nationwide league that involves teams from Central province and Upper Eastern

Homeboyz, Nondies, Machine, Strathmore Leos, Catholic Monks, Blak Blad and Chuka Vikings are some of the teams that are expected on Saturday July 6.

The tournament attracts young rugby fans within Embu County as well as the die-hards from Nairobi who are expected to do the 2-hour trip to Njukiri come Saturday.

The hosts also confirmed a number of elite DJs and artists are lined up to get the crowd going on Saturday and Sunday.
