Top spot at stake as Gor, Homeboyz collide in Kisumu

Kenyan Premier League (KPL) giants Gor Mahia play hosts to the current league runners up Kakamega Homeboyz in a crunch tie at Moi stadium in Kisumu Thursday evening.

The 4:00pm kick off will decide who takes command of the league with the two teams separated by only a point at the helm of the log.

Homeboyz could dislodge Gor Mahia from the top as they have 17 points, only one shy of the 17-time champions.

Having initially announced Gor would not host teams in Kisumu previously this season, vacating the stand saw Deputy Secretary General Ronald Ngala rally fans to come in numbers for the top-of-the-table clash.

“All I can tell our fans is that we are ready for the match and ask them to come cheer the team as usual,” said Ngala, in a warm tone as the team hosts its first match in the venue since the previous announcement.

Alleged theft of gate collections had led to the initial stance, but the club has not explained if all the issues surrounding the matter have been addressed.

The teams have previously met 10 times with Gor winning seven matches, and sharing the spoils thrice.

Homeboyz Chairman Cleophas Shimanyula mocked Gor’s tour to Libya ahead of their clash saying it was meaningless.

“Even if they (Gor) go to America and come back, we will still beat them. Even if they go to London and play Arsenal, we will still beat them. We are waiting for them and we will teach them a football lesson,” Shimanyula told a local publication.

In the league Gor has so far lost only once to slum boys Mathare United, while Homeboyz have won five times, lost twice and drawn twice.
