Tragedy strikes Vihiga United defender Ombeva
Vihiga United defender Dennis Ombeva is in mourning after ten of his family members alongside four neighbors perished at the grisly road accident that happened at Kamukuywa Bridge along Kitale-Webuye highway on Monday night.
The accident involved collision of several vehicles. Ombeva’s family was travelling from a family gathering in Kitale where they had gone to pay a visit to a relative.
“My family travelled from our home at Mahanga in Vihiga County yesterday morning to pay a visit to my aunt in Kitale. They left yesterday morning in two vehicles; a Nissan and a saloon car,” Ombeva told Citizen Digital.
“Amongst them was my mum, Esther Boge, five of my cousins, an aunt, uncle, my step mother, a boy and four neighbours. We received several phone calls yesterday night informing us about their death. The callers got our contacts from their(deceased) documents . We left today morning to visit the scene and I can confirm that I have lost my mum and several relatives,” Ombeva said.
Meanwhile, Vihiga United coach Francis Xavier has pledged support for the defender, promising to stand with the family during this trying moment.
“We at Vihiga United stand with him as a family and we will support him in through every possible way,” Xavier said.
Vihiga United earned promotion into the Kenya Premier League after winning the National Super League with eighty points, and will be playing their maiden season in the top tier league next year.
