Training at home a challenge, laments Blades captain Okoth

In Summary

  • Blades were last season knocked out of the league playoffs at the quarter finals by Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) after finishing sixth in the regular league with 32 points.
  • The basketball league was primed for a March restart but the outbreak of the virus threw all plans in the back burner.

Strathmore Blades men basketball team captain George Okoth has decried the training from home formula saying it poses a major challenge to basketballers due to the unavailability of basketball courts.

Like other athletes, basketballers have been forced to devise ways of having individualised training since the government banned group trainings and contact sports.

The ban on non-contact sports was lifted two weeks ago though it remains unknown when the government will lift the ban on contact sports.

“Basketball, unlike other sports getting a facility to train is difficult. You can rarely find a public facility where you can access and start training especially during this Corona pandemic period,” Okoth lamented.

The captain believes this will affect their performance when the league resumes even as they await a directive from the government on the contact sports return.

“We are just waiting for official information from the Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) and the government and then a workable program that can actually bring confidence to the basketball fraternity that things will turn out well,” he added.
