Trouble at Shabana as county rubbishes non-support claims

The County Executive Committee member for Sports in Kisii County, Marcella Otuke, has rubbished claims that the County Government has frustrated Shabana FC by failing to support the football team, and instead said that proper procedures should be followed when requesting for support.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Ms Otuke noted that rightful procedures were not followed by the club officials when requesting for support from the county government.

“Management of clubs has got their own structures under Football Kenya Federation (FKF) which is the body mandated to oversee management of clubs under their own rules and regulations; County Governments do not manage football clubs,” she stated.

This comes days after Shabana FC’s Secretary General, Evans Kibagendi, resigned citing frustration from the County Government.

Kibagendi claimed that the County Government of Kisii had no intentions to take over the ownership of the club, even after leading negotiations between the club management and the county.

However, Ms Otuke has dismissed the arguments saying the County is also a stakeholder in the club, and that Shabana FC’s officials should write formally to the County to explain the situation.

Former FKF President and Shabana FC Patron, Sam Nyamweya, has confirmed that he has spoken to the Kisii Governor, James Ongwae, over the matter and that it would be addressed so as to save the club from being relegated.

Shabana FC are rock bottom of the National Super League with only nine points and are in deep financial crisis.
