The Boxing Association of Kenya (BAK) president John Kameta has said that the long overdue elections could be held in August though uncertainty still lingers on due to in-house politics.

According to the Boxing Association boss, the push and pull factors are derailing the polls moreso in the Nairobi region where two factions; the Metropolitan and Nairobi Association have been at loggerheads which led to the nullification of their regional elections last year.

Kameta pointed out that the elections were supposed to be held last year but the political situation then posed a challenge, adding that they also didn’t have the finances to support the process.

“I have been in the front line fighting for order in Nairobi before we do our elections so that they participate for the first time in many years,” he said. “I want us to do the elections together and not leave other people behind because they have problems. As a leader you must bring everybody on board,” said Kameta.

Kameta dismissed claims that he was taking advantage of the political situation to hold onto the seat a little longer though his term has already expired.

The BAK chairman said that August is the ideal time to hold the elections since they need a 21-day notice for a constitutional amendment and a further 21 days to call for elections.
