TUK credit hard work for Super 8 CL victory

Technical University of Kenya (TUK) FC captain has credited their Super 8 Champions League victory to dedication and hard work a day after they outclassed Jericho All Stars 3-1 at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi to lift the trophy.

TUK added the Champions League crown to their Western Conference title to take home Ksh500,000 with the beaten Eastern Conference champions taking home Ksh250,000 in the Extreme Sports Limited organised annual tournament.

“We have come so far, the competition has been very tough for us but we worked tirelessly and our hard work and dedication has finally paid off. I am happy that we managed to prove ourselves after failing to win the Super 8 League,” Okomo said.

After a scoreless first half, Calvin ‘Marcelo’ Odhiambo broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute for TUK before Emmanuel Ateti adding the second goal 10 minutes later for a 2-0 lead.

Eddie ‘Bombay’ Kuria pulled one back for Jericho in the 86th before Jeconiah ‘Jeco’ Uyoga settled the Super 8 Champions League contest in favour of TUK two minutes later.

Jericho’s coach Thomas Okongo admitted that it was a tough match but congratulated his team for fighting on until the last minute.

“It was not the results we desired but we have to accept and move on. We played very well, our attack was on point but we wasted a several chances in the first half but we have to focus ahead.

“It was not an easy game, we missed Maqbul (Mohammed) who is one of our strong defenders but we fought hard and I congratulate them for that,” the beaten coach added.

Meltah Kabiria settled for third place after beating Shauri Moyo Blue Stars 3-1 in the play-offs last weekend.

Earlier on at the same venue, East side River of God (ROG FC) whipped Real Mathare from the West 5-2 to clinch the Super 8 Soccer Tournament title.

Ricky Thuo helped himself to a brace with Joash Sweyona, Ken Juma and Brian Owino also hitting the mark to ensure the Edgar Waudo charges pocket the Ksh100,000 for the winner.

Mwangi Kennedy and David Odhiambo scored for Real Mathare who were forced to settle for second place and subsequently take home the Ksh 50,000.

Baba Dogo Babes beat Dagoretti Former Players 3-1 last weekend to claim third place finish of the 10th edition of the much celebrated tournament.
