Tusker boss Nkata credits team effort for November award

The Fidelity Insurance Coach of the Month for November winner Tusker FC Head Coach Paul Nkata hailed his technical bench, players and club management after the Brewers swept to the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) and GOtv Shield titles this season.

The Ugandan tactician has maintained the Brewers atop the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) standings for a whopping seven months, recording a perfect winning run in November with outstanding victories over giants AFC Leopards and dethroned champions Gor Mahia.

Sharing equal success over the same period are Posta Rangers stand-in coach Pascal Ochieng and Sofapaka FC’John Baraza who completed the top three finalists for the November gong.

Nkata was picked for the significance of his wins and the impact it had on the KPL as he successfully orchestrated the end to Gor’s three-year dominance of the crown.

Baraza, making a second successive appearance in the Coach of the Month shortlist, conjured a final day drubbing of Thika United to keep Sofapaka in the premier league but was pegged back by Mathare United in a feisty two-all draw at the begining of November, hence narrowing his chances of prevailing over Nkata and Ochieng.

Ochieng, tending Posta Rangers on interim capacity, collected three points in Awendo when his gallant mailers piped Sony Sugar 1-2 then sealed Ushuru’s demotion from the league with a Carvin Odongo inspired 3-1 rout.

Nkata polled 22 to Baraza’s 14 and Ochieng’s 9 to claim the Sh50000 prize money that comes with the gong. He joins Francis Kimanzi (Mathare United), Zedekiah Otieno (Posta Rangers), Ivan Minnaert (AFC Leopards), Salim Babu (Sony Sugar), Henry Omino (Western Stima), Francis Baraza (Chemelil Sugar) and Marcelo Ferreira of Gor Mahia in the list of eminent recipients of the Fidelity gong.

The ecstatic former Muhoroni Youth and City Stars coach leads his Sportpesa Premier league conquerors to three friendly matches in his homeland before breaking for festive period. He’s looking forward to another phenomenal year at the helm of Tusker with objectives of making an impact on the CAF Champions League.
