Tusker down AFC Leopards to go sixth

Tusker FC climbed to sixth on the 18-teams Kenyan Premier League (KPL) standings thanks to a 2-0 win over AFC Leopards at Kenyatta Stadium.

The brewers were the stronger side in both halves of play with David Majak and Boniface Muchiri scoring the two goals to hand head coach Robert Matano a sweet victory against his former employers.

It all started with pace with the men in yellow showing the desire and urgency for goals which took only 12 minutes of play before Majak scored the first goal after Eric Ndayishimiye’s mistake parring the ball back to the field leaving it hanging inside the area.

Leading 1-0, Tusker continued to press for the second goal which took only 13 minutes as Boniface Muchiri scored in the 27th minute to make it 2-0 .The two teams went to the changing room with Ingwe looking to get inspiration from head coach Casa Mbungo who had witnessed his side commit a number of mistakes in the first half.

Just before the restart, AFC Leopards made double substitution bringing in speedy striker Paul Were and former Thika United mid-fielder Eugine Mukangula for defender Robinson Kamura and striker Wayi Yeka Tatuwe.

The Casa Mbungo led side worked hard in the second half but getting a goal became another problem with Were being forced out of the pitch with an injury after playing less than 10 minutes, making Mbungo’s job more complicated.

In the 79th minute, Leopards top goal scorer Wyvonne Isuza (7) came close but to the disappointment of the fans, missed a one on one opportunity with Tusker goalie Robert Mboya, shooting wide .The loss means Leopards remain in an unfamiliar territory of position 11 with 42 points same as Kariobangi Sharks and Ulinzi Stars but Ingwe has inferior goal difference .Leopards play their last match against Western Stima on Wednesday. Tusker host to Posta Rangers at Ruaraka grounds on the same day .
