Tusker fete three players with Ksh50,000 each

SportPesa Premier League title-chasing side; Tusker FC on Friday awarded three players Ksh50,000 each for their exemplary performance on and off the pitch, in the club’s internal Player of the Month Awards for the months of February, March and April.

Team captain James Situma who won the Player of the Month Award for February; midfielder Humphrey Mieno (March) and shot stopper David Okello (April) were feted by the team that is second on the log on 21 points, one behind leaders Mathare United.

The three were celebrated at a luncheon hosted by the Tusker Brand team at a Nairobi hotel as part of the endeavour to motivate the players.

The 10-time premier league champions are on course to regain the glory they last tasted in 2012 before titleholders Gor Mahia won for the next three seasons in a row.

Speaking at the event, Tusker  Head Coach, Paul Nkata lauded the move by the club to fete its best players every month saying that the gesture will go a long away towards motivating the team to play better into the remaining games.

“The monthly awards are important as they are playing a critical role in motivating players to give their all on the pitch, and to maintain high levels of integrity off the pitch,” he added.

Club CEO; Charles Obiny, noted that the  awards had played a pivotal role to ensure that the team  improved collectively both on and off the pitch, leading to the improved performance by the team at this point in the season.

The club uses a series of metrics to settle on the Player of the Month – assessed weekly for every game – which are then combined to pick the best player.
