Tusker held by Wazito as Sanneh’s goal secures Sharks victory over Rangers

Tusker FC and Wazito shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in a match played at the Ruaraka grounds on Sunday.

Timothy Otieno’s 48th minute strike gave the brewers the lead but an on goal from Justine Omari late in the game handed a point for Wazito.

Tusker came out at the restart rejuvenated with chances created from early on. Their efforts were rewarded with a Timothy Otieno sliding the ball past Duncan Ochieng.

The KPL new-comers got their first point since April 29th when they won 1-0 against Sofapaka at the same venue.

There was little to separate the two sides in the first half; lots of the play  centered in midfield with Tusker controlling the game. Plenty of half chances were created but none was enough to give either side the lead.

Boniface Muchiri came closest for the brewers in the 36th minute but he could not direct his shot towards goal.

It was a game which saw tempers flare with the opposing players clashing, forcing the centre referee to cool down the emotions.

At the Camp Toyoyo grounds, Ebrimah Sanneh’s late goal secured Kariobangi Sharks a narrow 1-0 win over Posta Rangers.

Sanneh stepped off the bench to score a bullet header in the 75th minute as Sharks recorded their third consecutive  KPL win.

It was more of a quiet first half with both sides not creating clear cut chances but a tactical approach from Sharks tactician William Muluya in the second half, dropping Duke Abuya for the match winner Sanneh seemed paid off.

Posta had the first chance of the game as early as the eighth minute, when Jockins Atudo who returned for the side starting at left back saw his free kick from close range parried by goalie John Oyemba for an unsuccesful corner.

Posta came back stronger in the second half and could have had a breakthrough through Dennis Mukaisi whose attempt towards keeper Oyenga lacked the power.

Posta head coach Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo’then made his first substitution; Calvin Odongo coming on for John Nairuka as the coach looked to inject some fresh legs with attacking prowess.

Having tasted a single win in their last four outings, Posta continued to push for a goal and could broke the deadlock in the 66th minute when a ball from a corner kick landed on the feet of Joseph Mbugi who sent a 25-yard shot goal-wards but was thwarted by the on-form Oyemba between the sticks.

Omollo, in a post match interview said it was hard for his team to take the defeat while his counterpart Muluya termed the victory as a “sweet one.”

Pamzo said: “We played well. My boys left everything on the pitch, and they were lucky(Sharks)to score. We had several chances but we could not utilise them . We are now ooking forward to our next match against Gor Mahia.”

On his part, Muluya hailed his team’s ‘sweet victory’.

“It has always been difficult for us to play Posta. I don’t think we had tasted a victory against them in the last two years but today we showed the character. My team has gained momentum and I’m happy with the lads.”
