Tusker need no help to win KPL title, skipper Situma vows

Tusker FC captain James Situma insists they do need assistance from AFC Leopards on Sunday to be crowned the 2016 Kenyan Premier League champions.

The Brewers have a four-point advantage at the top of the standings on 55 points and play 24 hours after titleholders and closest challengers Gor Mahia welcome KPL Top 8 winners Muhoroni Youth.

“We are not expecting any favours from Leopards. We are preparing for the game which we are treating like final. We know they are struggling at the moment but we have to be very careful,” the title winning former Sofapaka captain said.

K’Ogalo travel to Kisumu to face Muhoroni in where victory will haul them to within a point of the leaders and turn the heat on Tusker but it will all be in vain if Paul Nkata’s side beat 13th-placed Ingwe in the penultimate round of the season at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru.

“The pressure will be there if they win because it means we have to beat Leopards and if they draw, we need only a point. The important thing is we have players who are hungry for success and they have the experience to win big games like the one on Sunday,” Situma charged.

Ingwe formerly unveiled Stewart Hall as their new coach this week with the hope of reviving the local giants who have gone seven games without a win and only confirmed their top flight status last weekend despite losing 3-2 to Sofapaka in Machakos.

Nkata who has already led the Brewers to win the GOtv Shield last month has promised to land the league title they last won in 2012 under Robert Matano.

“Our fans should not be worried at all, the double will come and they should not panic let them support the team in the remaining matches then they will see fire,” he thundered.

His sentiments were echoed by midfielder Humphrey Mieno who captained the team during the Shield final.

“We are hoping to win a double but we have to keep our minds focused and take one game at a time in this last stretch,” the veteran midfielder emphasised.

A win for the Green Army and a loss for Tusker will see the title race head down to the final day of the season November 19 at the Nyayo National Stadium when the top two go head to head.
