Tusker rout Ulinzi, Bandari edge Vihiga

Tusker FC snapped their three-match Kenyan Premier League (KPL) losing streak with a 3-0 win over Ulinzi Stars in a convincing display at the Ruaraka Grounds on Thursday.

Winger Boniface Muchiri had a goal sandwiched between Brian Osumba’s brace that inspired the 11-time champions to only sixth win in 18 outings this season.

Head coach Robert Matano had instigated a mid-season clear out earlier in the month as he sought answers to his side’s slump and those that survived responded in style to return to winning ways.

At the Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa, Darius Msagha scored the only goal in Bandari FC’s 1-0 win over Vihiga United to lift the coastal-based side two places into sixth on the KPL standings.

It Osumba only 18 minutes before he put Tusker in the lead after latching onto Jackson Macharia’s pass to fire past goalkeeper James Saruni for the opener.

Boniface Muchiri doubled the advantage after delivering a superb free kick in the 37th minute that saw Saruni fail to prevent the ball from hitting the back of his net.

The visitors resumed with renewed determination as they kept firing past the backline of their opponents but their efforts bore no fruit.

Osumba continued to torment Ulinzi and took the game beyond them three minutes after the restart.

The skipper should have completed a brilliant hattrick when he won a penalty after he was takn down inside the area but he blasted his effort wide from six yards out.
