Tusker rule out Kinoru return after renovations stall

Tusker FC will not play at Meru’s Kinoru Stadium as their home ground for the second leg of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) this season as renovations are yet to be completed.

Speaking on Thursday after touring the stadium, Tusker FC CEO, Charles Obiny, confirmed they would not play on the ground as little had been done.

He noted that since their last tour of the field about a month ago there had been no remarkable progress since work has stalled.

“In our agreement with the County Government, we were supposed to start our second leg here but as it is now, we can’t make it. Nothing can be done in two weeks so that we play here,” the KPL leader’s CEO added.

“The stadium lacks minimum requirements like a perimeter wall, covered drainage or even changing rooms. The County Government needs to put more effort towards completing the renovations.”

However the CEO assured fans that once minimum standards are met the club will play its home matches in Meru.

On his side, Upper Eastern Football Kenya Federation, Secretary General; Ken Rungu pointed out it disappointing to football fans in Meru to watch the team play in Machakos.

Rungu pleaded to the Governor Peter Munya’s administration to hasten the works to bring the Brewers back to their adopted home.

“Let’s have more workers to see the stadium ready even to host the last 10 matches. If the pitch is ready by September, we can request officials to bring the GOtv Shield finals here,” he underscored.

The club that left Kinoru for Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos County was scheduled to play with Posta Rangers on July 3.
