Tusker, Ulinzi misfire in drab draw

Kenyan Premier League sides Ulinzi Stars and Tusker FC played out to a barren draw in a bland attacking display at Nakuru’s Afraha Stadium in what was only one of two Round 8 matches that did not produce a single goal.

At the Moi Stadium in Kisumu, Western Stima spurned the chance to keep the pressure on league leaders Mathare United and Bandari FC when they drew 2-2 with Nzoia United.

The result in Afraha saw Tusker FC climb above Kariobangi Sharks into fourth while Ulinzi also moved one place up into ninth.

Hosts Ulinzi threatened first when Enosh Ochieng’s header from an Oliver Ruto cross flew inches wide of Emery Mvuvekure’s post before Daniel Waweru had a lobbed effort dip out for goal kick.

Waweru attempted another audacious effort from long range but it gave Mvuvekure little trouble as he picked it up into the safety of his gloves.

Ruto was awarded a free-kick from a promising position after Hashim Sempala had handled the ball just outside the area but the left back could only smash his effort into the wall.
