Tuwei misses seat as Coe re-elected IAAF boss

Athletics Kenya (AK) President Lt. Gen (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei failed in his bid to become one of four IAAF Vice-Presidents as Lord Sebastian Coe was re-elected President of the World Athletics governing body unopposed.

Coe was the only candidate for the role and he will now serve a second four-year term, until 2023.

The 62-year-old was re-elected at the 52nd IAAF Congress in Doha, Qatar, where the IAAF World Championships get underway on Friday.

Coe took over from Lamine Diack as president of the IAAF in August 2015, when he edged out Bubka by 115 votes to 92 in a vote.

He previously chaired the organising committee for the 2012 Olympic Games in London and served as chairman of the British Olympic Association.

Ximena Restrepo, the sprinter who collected Colombia’s first Olympic medal in athletics at the 1992 Barcelona Games, was voted the first female Vice President of the IAAF

Joining the Colombian are Ukrainian Sergey Bubka, Prince Nawaf Bin Mohammed Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and Geoffrey Gardner of Norfolk Island.
