Tuyisenge, Odhiambo fire Gor past Muhoroni

Inform Gor Mahia striker Jacques Tuyisenge and George ‘BlackBerry’ Odhiambo scored a goal apiece as the champions overcame Muhoroni Youth 2-0 to lift the 10-man SportPesa Premier League (SPL) holders momentarily up to third on the log at Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Saturday.

Odhiambo gave K’Ogalo an early lead after Ugandan ace Khalid Aucho found him in the box and he made no mistake -firing past Muhoroni’s keeper Farouk Shikhalo in the seventh minute.

The 15-time champions had to wait until the second half in the 60th when Tuyisenge and Aucho exchanged fine passes in a quick counter attack before the latter finished clinically for his fifth of the season.

Gor played over the last 20 minutes a man less after Ernest Wendo was shown a second yellow when he fouled substitute Lwamba Bebeto, but Ze Maria’s side held on to win on a hot Kisumu afternoon to inch closer to leaders Tusker and Mathare in their revived race to retain the title for a record fourth time in a row.

Captain Musa Mohammed thought he had given his side the lead after connecting well to an Innocent Wafula ball floated from the right but referee Peter Waweru chalked it off for offside.

Shikhalo had to work smartly to keep off early threats by the eventual scorers who were receiving pin-point crosses from both flanks from Karim Nizigiyamana and Eric ‘Marcelo’ Ouma.

Rallied by the blazing crowd from the terraces, Gor dominated the match with Muhoroni struggling to find space upfront as Mohammed kept the visitors’ talismanic striker and former teammate; Wycliffe Ochomo at bay.

Coming from the break, Muhoroni improved in midfield but their hopes of a comeback were short-lived when the Rwandese import sunk the second 15 minutes after the resumption.

Not even substitutes Francis Ocholla, Benjamin Mosha and Bebeto would get the sugar-zone men even a consolation, despite K’Ogalo’s skipper Mohammed injury that forced his early resting with Bernad Odhiambo coming on.
