Two new faces in Stars squad for Cecafa

In a bid to cover up for the loss of centre-half Harun Shakava, Harambee Stars technical bench has called up Zoo Kericho defender Isaac Kipyegon together with his team mate Nicholas Kipkirui who notched nine goals in 2017 KPL campaign, to bolster the squad ahead of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup kick off.

Shakava, a Gor Mahia defender, is sidelined with a groin injury and will thus play no part in the tournament.

According to Football Kenya Federation, Shakava picked an injury which rules him out of the tourney. Shakava was in the initial provisional squad named a few days ago but due to the knee injury, he has been given time to recover.

Stars assistant coach Stanley Okumbi said: “I understand Shakava will be out of Cecafa this year but I can’t talk much on that. As you know I am now the deputy coach hence I am not in a position to give full details about him Okumbi,” said.

The federation announced the absence of the lanky defender on their official website even as the team ups its preparations for the looming assignment.
