Ugly spat: Stars defender Omar now claims Slavia Sofia boss racially abused him

Harambee Stars left-back Aboud Omar has come out for the first time since he was reported sacked by his Bulgarian outfit Slavia Sofia in the midweek, making damming claims that the club boss Ventseslav Stefanov raccially abused him before his team mates.

A section of international media reported the 25-year old had been sent packing for what the club executive termed as gross disrespect for the management and players.

Slavia president Ventseslav Stefanov claimed Omar hurled insults to the coach and fellow players, terming it as the peak of a long-term indiscipline problem.

But in his response on Saturday afternoon, Omar said the rain started beating him when he showed interest of moving to a rival club in Bulgaria which wanted his services.

“I’m still in Bulgaria, not knowing what to do. What the world has been told about me is absolutely false, in an effort to cover up my ordeal here.

“Trouble started when I refused to extend my contract with Slavia three monts to its end, because another club came knocking for my signature and presented better terms. They (Slavia) were reluctant to release me, and created the crisis that I’m facing now narrated.

He recounts how he injured his left leg in training, but the club insisted he should play despite acute pains.

“I was taken to hospital by the club, and the doctor’s report was that I could continue training. I was however amused because my leg had swollen and I was experiencing pains.

“I bowed to their pressure and continued playing, but the situation worsened forcing me to seek medical attention in a private facility, where I was told I had seriously damaged my muscles,” agonised Omar.

He says that the doctor’s report at the private facility, where a friend referred him, recommended a month rest to allow proper therapy for quick recovery.

Slavia management would however hear none of this, claiming he was absconding duty.

In one of the matches that he was ‘forced to play,’ he had to exit early in the first half.

“I was injected with pain relievers, so that I play with the condition. I could not withstand the pain….’’

Dress down

The climax of the crisis was a dress down before his teammates by Stefanov, which according to the player, is directly opposite of what he is being accused of.

“He called me names before the other players. He called me a black monkey. It was total humiliation, absolute racism. He said the private hospital report was a fabrication…” troubled Omar explained.

His punishment included relegation to the Under-19 team and denial of club transport, forcing him to hire a taxi on daily basis which he says cost him Ksh. 3000 in every outing.

Omar wants the world to know the ordeal he has gone through, as he navigates a blurred route to his safety, as he says; he is not safe anymore in Bulgaria.
