Uhuru summons Wario, Rugut to explain WADA non-compliance

President Uhuru Kenyatta has summoned Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Arts and Culture; Dr. Hassan Wario and Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya CEO, Japhter Rugut to explain how the country’s anti-doping body was declared non-compliant by WADA.

The development comes as the nation continues to reel in shock after the verdict that puts the country’s participation at the Rio 2016 Olympics Games in Brazil at risk should the International Olympics Committee (IOC) rule to suspend Kenya from the quadrennial event.

Citizen Digital has established the Head of State called for the meeting on Friday morning with the Minister and ADAK officials after being caught by surprise by Thursday night’s WADA bombshell since he thought the compliance requirement had been met when he signed the Anti-Doping Bill of 2016 into law on April 22.

“The President is unhappy with the development and has called for a meeting to establish why the decision was made despite assurances from the Ministry and ADAK that the law met WADA requirements,” our source who is not authorised to speak to the media said.

“@PresidentKE currently chairing a meeting over the non-compliance verdict. Sports minister @AreroWario, PS and ADAK officials in attendance,” the official Twitter feed of the office of the president, PSCU Kenya Digital posted later in the morning.
