Ulinzi coach Nyangweso blames pre-season troubles for poor season

Ulinzi Stars head coach Benjamin Nyagweso says lack of a proper pre-season preparations has contributed to their poor start to the new FKF Premier League season.

Speaking to Citizen Digital Nyagweso said he did not have enough time to prepare his side for the new campaign following COVID-19 regulations that prohibited group training.

“We had a very poor pre-season; no one knew when the league was going to start and no friendly matches were allowed so it was difficult to assess ourselves,” Nyangweso said.

Ulinzi were 13th in the current FKF-PL standings before the latest suspension on all sports activities and Nyangweso says he is using the break to urge his strikers to sharpen their finishing.

“Our defence has really tried to stand up the same to our midfield but our strikers are not scoring enough goals to win us matches. This is an area we really need to improve on if we have to finish in a better position,” added Nyangweso.

The veteran tactician who led Ulinzi to winning the league in 2010 is confident his side will come back stronger but admitted any title ambitions would be too far-fetched.

“Our aim now is to push all the way and finish in a good position.”
