Ulinzi Stars sign three players ahead of new season

The three players Mark Bikokwa, who is a former Nzoia United player, Joseph Kuria (Thika United) and Brian Odiaga (Sony Sugar) were unveiled on Saturday at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru.

Odiaga is a central defender while Kuria is an attacking midfielder and Bikokwa is a defender.

“We finished the league in the second position last year but this year we’re determined to take the cup and that is why we have shopped for the best players this season and we  hope they will rise up to the occasion and give us the victory,” said Captain Joe Birgen, the Officer In Charge of Ulinzi Stars.

Ulinzi Stars who finished second behind Gor Mahia start their title campaign on February 13 with a tricky home match against Sony Sugar.

Birgen further disclosed that they have four players in their squad who have just completed their Form Four exams and were hoping to sign them if they impress the technical bench.

At the same time Birgen disclosed that two of their key players- goalkeeper Francis  Ochieng and defender Mulinge Ndeto have been redeployed to official duties and would not feature for the club this season.

Coach Robert “The Lion” Matano was optimistic that the new signings will fit in the team.

“We expect better results this season because our aim this season is to win the league and that is why we have recruited youthful players who should be able to fit into our system,” said Matano.

Ulinzi Stars will be the only side from Nakuru to feature in the Sportpesa Kenyan Premier League after the second Nakuru side in the league Nakuru All Stars were relegated.
