Ulinzi Stars head coach Benjamin Nyagweso says his side is determined to stop Gor Mahia’s unprecedented dominance of the Kenyan top flight league.
Gor have won each of the last four Kenyan Premier League titles including this year’s championship which they were awarded by virtue of being top of the league when it was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Gor are a very strong team and it will be interesting now to see them in transition because they’ve lost some really good players. They have tried to get quality replacements and for a team of that class you have to be really strong to dethrone them,” Nyangweso said.
The soldiers are yet to begin training due to COVID-19 restrictions set by the government and also yet to make any new signing in the current transfer window but Nyagweso insists the existing squad is strong enough to fight for the title having finished fourth last season.
“Consistency is key for any team that wants to fight for a trophy sometimes it’s risky to make too many changes at once. we have a strong squad that has stayed together for some time and it’s now time to win trophies for our fans,” he added.
The Nakuru based side kicks off the season on November 22at home against either Kisumu All Stars or Vihiga United who are set to face off in the promotion/relegation playoff.
The 2010 league champions will, in their second fixture, visit reigning champions Gor on November 28, before hosting newly promoted Bidco United.
