Ulinzis Wamalwa ruled out for the season

Ulinzi Stars and Harambee Stars striker Oscar Wamalwa has been ruled out of the game for the entire 2019/20 season, following a recent shoulder injury.

Head coach Benjamin Nyangweso has confirmed the development, underlining the blow in his quest to challenge for the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) gong without his lead striker.

Wamalwa was injured on Sunday at the Afraha Stadium Nakuru, when his team lost 0-1 AFC Leopards, and will need a surgery to according to Nyangweso.

“He will not be back soon because of the surgery, it’s definitely a big blow to me but I’m sure whoever I’ll picked to play in his role will fit in well.  Whoever replaces him has to be at his best to ensure we don’t feel much gap,” Nyangweso told Citizen Digital.

This comes barely two weeks after, Wamalwa, who has netted seven goals in the topflight league, was suspended for snowballing five yellow cards thus missing their mouthwatering clash against Tusker FC a fortnight ago.

In the absence of the 2019 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup Golden Boot winner in the Soldiers squad, Enosh Ochieng is expected to play the lead striker role.

Ochieng, has bagged eight goals so far in the ongoing KPL campaign, but will considerably miss Wamalwa’s partnership in the attack.

The coach will be up for a tedious assignment to maintain the fifth position on the league standings this weekend, when they visit rivals Nzoia Sugar.

Having amassed 35 points from their 19 matches, Ulinzi are nine behind league leaders Gor Mahia and three shy off the top four berth.
