Unlucky Mathare must rise again quickly – Kimanzi

Mathare United head Coach Francis Kimanzi has pointed out his charges were just unlucky in their Kenyan Premier League (KPL) 2-0 loss to Sony Sugar at the Nairobi’s Jericho Camp Toyoyo grounds on Saturday.

According to the veteran tactician, conceding an early goal in the match was a mental blow and mounted pressure on his side which forced him to make unexpected changes.

In his post match interview with Citizen Digital, Kimanzi offered his players had a slow start to the match and got punished, exonerating his goalkeeper who was heavily criticized for the ‘two easy goals’.

“The whole team has to do better; it’s not about an indivindual. We got really punished for a sluggish charge into the match, and having to chase the game from behind from its early stages is difficult mentally. It puts a lot of pressure to the players,” Kimanzi said.

The slum boys are sixth on the log with 35 points, having collected only two points from their last five games and will meet AFC Leopards in their next fixture.

Sony’s win was a second successive win taking them to 27 points, with struggling Thika United next on their fixtures.

Unsuccessful fight

Wazito’s woes continue after putting up an unsuccessful fight against Posta Rangers, registering a 2-3 loss as their relegation threatened counterparts Thika United also lost at home against Nakumatt.

The title chasing pack left it tight after the round of 24 games, with Bandari and AFC Leopards the only other winners among the toppers, sitting third and fourth on the league standings respectively, level on39 points.
