Ushuru rout Eldoret as Wazito bounce back in NSL

Ushuru FC demolished Eldoret Youth FC 3-0 at the Ruaraka Grounds to tighten their grip at the summit of the National Super League (NSL) on Sunday.

It maintained their unbeaten start to the season and kept their four-point gap intact with second placed Wazito FC edging Kisumu All Stars 2-1 at the Camp Toyoyo Grounds to stay apace.

Edwin Mwaura was on target for the Taxmen in the 14th minute before Michael Osundwa doubled the lead nine minutes before the break.

The second half saw reduced intensity from Ken Kenyatta’s troops and the full time score looked destiny for 2-0 before Jeremiah Wanjala banged the third six minutes to stoppage time.

The win which is Ushuru’s eighth of the season, has them on 25 points after nine rounds, four points above second placed Wazito FC who bounced back from their last outing’s 2-0 loss against Bidco United to hand Kisumu All stars their first loss of the season by thumping them 2-1 at Camp Toyoyo Grounds.

David Orem and Teddy Osok were on target on either halves for the hosts as their goals sandwiched the visitors’ consolation strike.

Following their respective defeats, Eldoret Youth now occupy 7th spot on 14 points while Kisumu All Stars are fifth after garnering 16 points from their nine outings of the season.

Elsewhere Kisii based Shabana FC bounced back from their 1-0 loss against Eldoret Youth to clinch a 2-0 win over Bidco United (at Gusii Stadium) who had handed Wazito FC their second loss of the season by beating them 2-0.

Oscar Oketch was on target in both halves to end a three match winless run for the Gilbert Selebwa coached side. Shabana climb one position to sixth on 16 ponts as Bidco remain eighth on 12 points.

Meanwhile Talanta FC were dislodged from the second spot to third after they were forced to a two-all draw with Thika United at Thika Stadium.

Talanta looked destined for loss but managed to pull an equalizer in the closing stages of the game to earn a point. The result leaves Talanta FC third on 20 points as Thika United settle for 14th spot on nine points after nine rounds.

In another match of the afternoon, struggling side Green Commandoes were condemned to their seventh loss of the season as Victor Ngome struck a last minute goal to see St. Joseph FC edge out the hosts 1-0 at Kakamega’s Bukhungu Stadium.

Josephs now climb to 13th on nine points as the Commandoes remain glued third from bottom on four points after nine matches.
