USIU keen to end KHU half season on high

United States International University- Africa (USIU-A) men’s team will be out to end their first half of the season with a win when they host Wazalendo tomorrow in a Kenya Hockey Union premier league clash at the City Park.

The Students are on a six-match winless streak and will be hoping to register their first win since their 2-0 win over Chase Sailors in their second match of the season played in March.

Ever since then, USIU have went on to draw four and loose two recently going down 3-0 to fellow students Strathmore University Gladiators last weekend.

Head coach Tom Olal is also concerned with their poor run and has rued lapse in concentrations as their greatest undoing this season as they sit sixth on the

“I can’t specifically point out our weak points but I think we are conceding a lot of goals but above all we have been losing focus in many occasions and I therefore urge my players to play to the last whistle,” Said Olal.

On the other hand, Wazalendo have been a revelation this season registering four wins, two draw and one loss thus ranking third on the log with 14 points same as Kenya Police who have a superior goal difference.

Despite their recent forms, USIU reigned supreme last season when the two sides met, with the Students beating Wazalendo by a solitary goal in the two fixtures. However, Olal says that will not play any part in tomorrow’s contest.

“I believe what worked in the past may not necessarily work in the present. We will play our game and beating them is a plus for us,” said Olal.

Having finished sixth last season, Olal is still optimistic his charges will improve in the second phase of the season as they wind up their first nine matches tomorrow evening.

Later on, former champions Kenya Police will be looking to cut the lead of Butali Sugar Warriors in the table of the league when they face off with Chase Sailors in the same venue.

On Sunday, Parklands will take on Chase Sailors as Green Sharks clash with Nairobi Simba.

In the women’s top division, Amira Sailors will host Strathmore University at the City Park before the defending champions Telkom entertain Kenyatta University in the same venue.

Telkom will also take on Sliders on Sunday.
