Veteran Okwemba joins Vihiga United

National Super League (NSL) Leaders, Vihiga United have captured veteran midfielder Charles Okwemba who was released by Kenyan Premier League side Sofapaka in mid-season.

Vihiga has also signed striker Dennis Wafula from Sofapaka, defensive midfielder Soita Filicho from Strathmore, striker Keiphas Wanjala from Kakamega Homeboys on loan,  and left back Gideon Abucheri from City Stars.

Former AFC Leopards and Sofapaka goalkeeper Bernabas Tiema has joined from Kenya Police, with defender Oscar Omwami signed from Zoo Kericho and finally midfielder Lucas Waitere joins from Isibania.

Apart from those the club has also given local boys a chance to be part of the team so as to improve on their skills.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, assistant coach, former international Xavier Francis, said they had some weakness in the first leg and they believe the new signings will plug in the holes.

“The new signings are responding positively in the trainings and they will help us a lot,” he added.

Apart from signing, the club also released some players including  Bruno Sserenkuma, Umunyimi Ken and goalkeeper Vasky.

The NSL is still on a break and is expected to resume on July 12th with Vihiga taking on Nairobi Stima in an away match at 3:00 pm.
