Vihiga Boys off to winning start in County Games

Vihiga Boys High School saw off archrivals Chavakali 1-0 on Wednesday to launch their Vihiga County Secondary Schools Term 2B Games in style.

Viewed as a typical match-up for the finals, the clash lived up to its billing with local fans that had swarmed Ebusakami area lost in entertainment from the end to end stuff on display.

It was a befitting opener for the Pool B that also includes Ebusiloli, Kaimosi and Ebubayi.

Pavin Ochieng was the hero for Vihiga when he tucked away the only goal of the match in the 20th minute following a goalkeeping blunder.

“I feel happy scoring the winning goal and our target is to win the remaining matches and qualify to the Regional Games and later on the Nationals,” Ochieng told Citizen Digital post-match.

Chavakali Coach Gregory Luvai rued a lack of concentration from his side and labeled the performance from his boys ‘panicky’.

“The boys took long to get back into the match and it’s now upon us to win the remaining matches and make sure we win the championship because it’s our aim to represent the county in the regional level,” he added.

Later Wednesday Vihiga registered their second win of the tournament when they edged Ebusiloli by a similar margin with Jefferson Ayodi scoring that lone goal.
