Hamisi constituency in Vihiga County is emerging the favourable location on which to build a proposed modern stadium, area Deputy Governor Dr. Patrick Saisi has said.

Kidundu Grounds had long been earmarked as the preferred site but reluctance from area residents to accept relocation compensation has prompted the local administration to explore other stadium options.

The plans are at a conception stage but Saisi assured the facility should be ready by next year as they seek to provide a home ground for Vihiga United who earned Kenyan Premier League (KPL) promotion last year.

“It’s not easy for us to make concrete decisions yet because people are not yet willing to relocate. Those neighbouring Hamisi might be willing so once it is confirmed we will allocate a budget for,” Saisi told Citizen Digital.

He reiterated the County’s pledge to bankroll Vihiga and was indeed in the capital Nairobi seeking advice from the Ministry of Sports & Heritage and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) on the best sponsorship model to adopt.

“We want to support the club but we don’t want to interfere with its operations. With the help of the Ministry and FKF we can develop the best policy,” he said.

Vihiga United begin life in the top flight with a clash against Mathare United at Kakamega County’s Bukhungu Stadium on Sunday.
