Vihiga plot Kisumu ambush in PL ticket fight
- Vihiga United must win the second leg match by at least two goals to nil in order to secure a place in the FKF Premier League set to begin on November 20.
- Okoth says the Saturday game has made him make some critical changes in his squad, all aimed at ruffling Kisumu after learning about their weakness.
Vihiga United captain Patrick Okulo is confident that his team will secure a chance to play in the FKF Premier League next season as they face Kisumu All-Stars on Wednesday at the Kisumu Moi Stadium.
All-Stars claimed a first leg advantage winning 2-1 on Saturday at the Mumias Sports Complex but Vihiga captain Okoth is hopeful they can ambush their hosts, turn the tides, and gain a promotion ticket.
The midfielder says that losing the first leg should not be a reason to panic since it is evident that the second leg can change situations.
“We can come back with even four goals, teams lose three to nil in their first leg and manage to beat their opponents four goals or even five in the second leg, we still have a chance, we have trained enough, let our fans believe we are winning on Wednesday,” enthused Okulo.
Okulo says that the reason why they lost at the Mumias Complex on Saturday is because many players had not played such a ‘pressuring game’ adding that they’ve learnt a lot hence ready to showcase their prowess in the upcoming match.
“Most players didn’t have experience of playing such a pressuring match, going forward they have learned a thing from the game and ready to come to the task,” said the soft-spoken midfielder.
On his part, Vihiga United coach Sammy Okoth says they are determined to win the match by making sure they score an early goal to boost the morale of the players.
Okoth says the Saturday game has made him make some critical changes in his squad, all aimed at ruffling Kisumu after learning about their weakness.
He however agrees that the Wednesday game will be no walk in the park
“I am hopeful we are going to win, my boys have accepted their mistakes in the previous match and have come to terms with the results and now they have promised they are going to do as we agreed,” said Okoth.
