Vihiga Queens striker Terry Engesha says she is optimistic of bagging the golden boot once the current Kenyan Women Premier League (KWPL) campaign campaign comes to an end.

Engesha who rose from Tar Tar High School in West Pokot to become one of the best female strikers in the country has so far notched 14 goals in the opponents nets putting Vihiga Queens on top of zone B league with 28 points after the 10th round.

“I have never doubted my ability in front of the goal and that spirit will drive me to achieve my target. I want to thank each player in my team especially my fellow forwards who feed me to finish.

“My aim now is to score more and more goals and help my team win games because the competition is tight. For example Mwanahalima Adam scored five goals alone when her club Thika Queens defeated Zetech Sparks 7-4 last weekend,” the Kenyan international said.

Mwanahalima’s five-goal haul took her tally to 13 for the season while Wadadia’s Ruth Chebungei is third with 12 goals. Violet Nanjala of Trans Nzoia Falcons follows in the fourth position with 11 goals while Mercy Airo of Gaspo wrap up the top five list with nine goals.

Engesha was on the score sheet last Sunday when Vihiga Queens coached by experienced coach Alex Alumira thrashed Oserian Ladies FC 4-0 in league match played in Oserian stadium, the win cementing their zone B lead with 28 points, nine ahead of second placed Wadadia while Nakuru Queens FC who got a slight 4-3 win against Trans Nzoia Falcons sits third on the log with 18 points.

Kisumu All Starlets and Trans Nzoia Falcons completed top five with 17 and 13 points respectively.

Elsewhere after a huge 7-4 win against Zetech, Thika Queens leads zone A with 30 points 8 ahead of Ulinzi Starlets who are second whie Gaspo Kayole Starlets and Zetech completes top five with 19, 13 and 11 points respectively.

The league campaign takes break this weekend paving way for the FKF Women’s Cup which enters its quarter finals stage.
