Vihiga Queens giving Thika no space as KWPL gathers momentum
Kenyan Women Premier League (KWPL) champions Vihiga Queens made a statement in their quest to defend the title with a fourth straight win, as the fourth round of matches concluded in the weekend.
Vihiga humiliated Mathare United Women 5-0 on Saturday, keeping the chase after league leaders Thika Queens close and tight.
Both teams have 12 points, keeping a 100 percent record so far but Thika enjoy a superior goal-difference of 20.
Speaking to Citizen Digital after the match, Vihiga Queens head coach Alex Alumira attributed the fine run to the camaraderie his team is enjoying.
“It has been a good run this far and you can see teamwork is paying. The match (against Mathare) was tight in the first minutes, having in mind they are one of the most experienced teams in the league.
“We were however well prepared knowing that the match would
be difficult. We were very fast and accurate in passes against them, an element we have been very keen on in every match since the league kick-off,” charged Alumira, adding eyes are fixed on the title.
Wadaida, other title contenders who have played five games are in third position with 10 points, while Makolanders and Oserian Ladies are in the fourth and fifth positions respectively with nine points each.
In their next match, Vihiga Queens will lock horns with Trans Nzoia Queens in Mumias.
