Vihiga Queens snap up Moraa

Kenyan Women Premier League (KWPL) defending champions Vihiga Queens have snapped up Eldoret Falcons’ striker Janet Moraa to bolster their squad ahead of the soon-to-begin season.

Head coach Alex Alumira says he did not want to sign many players who would end up either being disenfranchised with lack of game time or pretty much being on the bench.

Nabirye was signed to replace Harambee Stars ace Cynthia Shilwatso who joined Spanish Premier League side FC Logrono.

Those shown the door by the outfit include Sylvia Ombango, Lilian Adera, Sheillah Shabuya, and Edna Sumba.

At the same time Alumira says that women football is developing rapidly than thought, calling for more concerted efforts to make the competition stronger.

“Women football is growing at a very fast rate and the more people put a lot of effort and interests, it builds the morale of these girls. Parents have also started to realize that what boys can do girls can do too,” said Alumira.

The league is expected to begin in two weeks’ time and Alumira added that they are hard at training, with the fitness levels also improving, confident that by the time the season kicks off they’ll be good to compete.

At the beginning of the year, Queens had recruited three new players from different teams – Ugandan international Joan Nabirye, striker Bridgets Muhonja who completed Form Four last year from Mudavadi Girls High School and midfielder Mwanakombo Sumeiya, a Form One student from Madira Girls High School ahead of their title defense.
