Vihiga Queens still in KWPL title race, asserts captain Kadari
Vihiga
Queens will use the Kenya Women Premier League break this weekend to prepare
for their Bungoma Queens home fixture, Captain Felisters Kadari has said.
Vihiga,
who are out of the FKF Cup which enters semi-finals on Saturday, hope to return
to the Premier League action fully rejuvenated after a two-week break.
According
to Kadari, their Premier League title hopes are still intact despite their
considerable point’s difference against leaders Kenya Police Bullets, hence the
desire to finish strong by winning the remaining matches.
"We
would rather win with a small margin than lose. In a game you anticipate
to win, draw or lose but with our situation now we are targeting maximum points
in our last three matches," the Vihiga Queens defender stated, adding
there is no room for error.
Vihiga
have dates with Bungoma Queens at home before taking on Nakuru City Queens and
finally Wadadia FC away in that order, and Kadari remains hopeful.
Kenya Police
Bullets are top with 43 points, while Vihiga follows with 37. If Police drop
points in any of their two remaining fixtures, it will be to Vihiga’s advantage.
"We
are still in the race. It is possible for us to emerge champions this season.
That is the encouragement we give ourselves that if we work hard anything can
happen," Kadari stated.
During the FKF Women's Cup semi-finals break, Vihiga Queens have lined up friendly matches which started with a 2-0 win over Sevilla FC on Thursday.
They were set to play Visiru FC Friday evening in Kismu, in another friendly.
Meanwhile,
Madira Soccer Asassins head coach Francis Muhambe remains adamant they will
escape relegation despite their 1-0 loss against Vihiga Queens last weekend.
Muhambe,
reflecting on the loss, commended his players for “a good game,” terming the
loss as a mere bad luck.
"Despite
being in a bad position, our match against Vihiga Queens openly showed our
potential because the girls played really well. The goal were an accident
because the goalkeeper slid in the water soaked grounds. We've however picked
our positives ahead of other matches," said the coach.
"Being
in the relegation zone does not mean we will be relegated. We are working
towards garnering at least six points in our remaining matches. Now, we know we
have no control over the table but we can control our matches," stated
Muhambe.
The coach
further promised to make changes in the attack section ahead of other matches,
to ensure that they utilise all their open chances.
"Our
next Match is against Wadadia, followed by Ulinzi Starlets then Kibera. The
girls are well set, so, our fans should not be worried. Our problem is
finishing but we are tirelessly working on it, considering we have a very young
squad. Our last match we had 12 open chances but didn't utilize any of
them.
Madira are currently trying to fight their way out of the relegation zone against Wadadia, Bunyore Starlets, Bungoma Queens, Nakuru City Queens and Zetech Sparks, as each of the teams have only three remaining matches.
