Vihiga ready for new test after promotion

Vihiga United coach Sammy Okoth says he is unlikely to make any major changes in the team, backing the squad that earned promotion to the FKF Premier League via playoffs to cope with the quality of competition in the top flight.

Vihiga needed post-match penalty shootouts to edge Kisumu All Stars after their aggregate playoff score had ended in a 3-3 draw and will now face Ulinzi Stars in their league opener on November 22.

“I appreciate these boys for the amazing performance, it’s now time to plan for the premier league. Right now the focus is on how to get the best of this group not signing players,” Okoth said.

The former Zoo FC coach says his immediate task for the season will be to keep Vihiga in the league.

“This is a young team and you can’t say you’re getting into the KPL to win it with them now,” he added.

Vihiga captain Patrick Okulo has meanwhile thanked his coach for leading them back to the top flight and challenged his teammates to step up for the new test.

“I’m happy to be back after one season in the NSL and now is the time to keep pushing as a team.”
