Waa Girls, Shimba Hills champs of Coast Chapa Dimba

Teams from Kwale County, Waa Girls and Shimba Hills FC are the Coast Region Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Youth Championship after wins against Solwogidi and Breezham respectively in Sunday’s finals.

Ali Hamisi brace and a second half goal from Said Msaji were enough to help the Ali Mwachaunga coached boys to emerge victorious.

‘’I must be frank that Breezeham didn’t pose any threat to our team today and I don’t know why they didn’t come to the party like their previous matches. We are prepared to meet the next team we don’t know who yet, but we will make ourselves strategize well to face whoever,” Mwachaunga said.

In the girls’ category a similar score line was witnessed as Waa Girls swept aside Solwogidi with Salama Mariga, Violet Akoth, and Nelly Jonathan on target.

Waa girls coach George Ojwaya expressed his delight after the final whistle.

“I am a happy man. I told them to keep it simple and follow my instructions and they have seen the results for themselves,” George said post-match.

The two teams will represent Coast Region in the national finals set to be held in Nairobi later this year.

The best goalkeeper of the tournament award went to Shimba Hills Mohamed Juma while his teammate Ali Kibwebwe took the MVP award.

Breezham goal porcher Samuel Jeffa notched the top scorer’s prize.

In the girls’ category, Waa girls’ Susan Oganga was the best goalkeeper, while Salama Mariga also of Waa took the golden boot.

Solwogidi’s Mwalimu Mwamajuma was named the Most Valuable Player.

Safaricom has invested Sh100 million in this program which includes Sh10m worth of prizes as well as funds for the renovation of select community pitches through a legacy programme.
