Walusimbi next after Wendo, Tuyisenge, renew contracts at Gor

Ernest Wendo joined Rwandan international Jacques Tuyisenge in extending his contract at Gor Mahia, as the club’s bid to keep players whose contracts are ending this season began with a punch on Monday.

The influential midfielder, who also broke to the national team Harambee Stars this season, penned a three-year deal that will keep him at the 16-time champions until end of 2020 season.

He joins Tuyisenge who added two years in his current contract, thwarting Rwanda’s APR efforts to rope him in at the Kigali based club. His contract was due to end in January.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, club Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lordvick Aduda confirmed the development, adding the club is committed to keep its ‘faithful-fine servants’.

“We have renewed their contracts but the terms of renewal are not for the public. Wendo added three years while Jacques added two.

“We are also hoping to finalise Godfrey Walusimbi’s extension as soon as possible. We should have done it even earlier but his commitments for Uganda Cranes held us from initiating talks early enough,”  Aduda said.

Walusimbi’s contract ends in mid January 2018, and Gor are not risking losing him to Albania’s FK Tirana who are reportedly courting him.

Contract to honour

Tirana, coached by immediate former Gor coach Jose Marcelo ‘Ze Maria’ Ferreira, has also been linked with reigning KPL Most Valuable Player (MVP) Kenneth Muguna, although he has two years remaining in his contract with KPL giants.

Aduda insisted Muguna is not for sale, playing down claims that the former Western Stima player could be following Ze Maria in January to the Eastern Europe country.

“I can only speak what is official. Muguna is our player and he has a contract to honour. They (Tirana) employed unorthodox means to try to sign him but we fixed that.

“He is settled here and that’s why he is playing and performing,” charged Aduda.

Of the club’s policy on foreign players, Aduda affirmed they were not planning to axe any of the current imports.

Karim Nizigiyamana of Burundi and Meddie Kagere (Rwanda) have running contracts and according to him, they have impressed in their assignments, so far.

Gor is planning ahead of the 2018 season, when they return to the continental club championship after one season absence after winning the 2017 KPL title.

Meanwhile, Aduda has congratulated AFC Leopards for their return to continental football after overcoming Kariobangi Sharks 2-0 in Friday’s GOtv- Shield final.

The Robert Matano coached side will therefore represent Kenya in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederations Cup in 2018.

“We are proud of AFC Leopards. Looking at the history Leopards have a big place in Kenya’s football, and when things are difficult for them we feel sorry. It is quite encouraging to see them back in Confederations Cup,” concluded Aduda.
