Wambua keen to end Mwambas winless run against Mombasa

Mwamba RFC head coach Kevin Wambua is optimistic the evident motivation among his charges in camp ahead of their clash against Mombasa this weekend will inspire good results, despite their recent poor form.

Mwamba have found it rough suffering four straight defeats, and are on the verge of relegation if they continue with the losing streak.

“We had a shaky start last year but this year we are positive and hopeful that we will gather enough points to keep us in the topflight,” Wambua told Citizen Digital.

Wambua is keeping faith that last year’s mistakes that cost them crucial points will not be repeated when Kenya Cup resumes.

“Yes we made some ridiculous mistakes that cost us decisive points but we have worked on our set-piece routines and defensive drills that have dominated our training in the past two weeks,” he noted.

However, Mwamba will be wary of the coast based team that is starving for their first victory since being promoted to the topflight.

According to the coach, Mombasa is a good side and it’s a game worth looking forward to.

“We don’t have any reason to take it easy. They are a good side and definitely want a win considering their winless streak. We are also hungry for  a win, hopefully we will record positive results,” Wambua added.

Meanwhile, KCB assistant coach Dennis Mwanja is confident his club will hold on to their Kenya Cup crown this season.

The former player described the defending champion’s current form as ‘perfect’, as they prepare to host an equal enterprise Menengai Homeboyz.

“We are well aware of the quality of players and style of play our rival’s have but we are more than ready to face them,” Mwanja said.

Mwanja is also optimistic the hard work in training during the break will pay direct dividends.

“I expect the team to perform better against Homeboyz because we had enough time to train and gel together,” a bullish Mwanja said.

However, the KCB tactician has warned against complacency, adding his charges must work on their weak points ahead of the playoffs late in March.

“It’s still early to talk about playoffs but for us to get there we must work extra hard and polish on our mistakes if we stand any chance of scooping the title for the sixth time,” the ‘Iron man’ charged.
