Wambua out to tap into ten-a-side festival talent

Kenya Lionesses head coach Kevin Wambua has said he will use the 2018 women’s ten-a-side festival to scout for talent worth drafting into the national team.

The annual tournament organized by the Kenya Rugby Union will kick off on February 4 at the United States International University (USIU) with Wambua confirming he will be in attendance together with his technical bench.

The festival will be played over five rounds with Nakuru Athletic Club set to host the last of them in March 30.

“The festival is positive and important for us in terms of assessing the players in the squad, looking for fresh talents out there and trying to keep our girls in the right shape,” Wambua told Citizen Digital.

Wambua added he is preparing for the upcoming qualifiers of the HSBC Seven’s Series in Hong Kong and is looking to add more players to join those already at the KRU camp as part of the provisional squad.

Last season, the team reached the last eight at the 2017 Women’s Sevens World Series Qualifiers in Hong Kong thus booking a spot for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
