Wanyama hails father figure Pochettinos influence

Harambee Stars Captain and Tottenahm Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama has hailed the influence of his manager Mauricio Pochetinno as pivotal in his career, referring to him as a father figure.

The Stars captain labeled the Argentine – who played a key role in luring him from former club Southampton FC to the North London side – the best man for Spurs citing his constant motivation of the players on and off the pitch.

“He is always helping us even outside football. He is a great person and everyone trusts him so much,” Wanyama told sports channel SuperSport.

Wanyama who left the Saints in June after three seasons at the club has commanded a starting role in the Spurs line up and has recognized Pochettino’s hand that helped him settle quickly into the Premier League.

“I have played five seasons in the English Premier League. It was a little bit difficult  in the beginning; I took me almost six month to adopt to the speed and the psychical side of the league and it’s still the manager (Pochettino )who helped me to adapt quickly when he signed me from Celtic,” he added

Spurs plan to leave White Hart Lane for their new £400million home after the 2017/18 season and development appears to be progressing steadily, a move Wanyama believes will increase the clubs fan base

“We can attract a lot of fans in the stadium with the huge capacity of the stadium I think I will be great for the club because it will grow the clubs fan base and even the huge crowds during the champions league nights,” Wanyama reckoned.

Having stopped Chelsea’s 13 game unbeaten run third placed Spurs head in to the weekend fixtures in high spirits with an early fixture at home against West Brom, with a win moving them to second place as Liverpool will face Manchester United on Sunday evening.
