Ex-Sports Cabinet Secretary Dr. Hassan Wario, athletics legend Kipchoge Keino and two others have been arrested after surrendering to Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

They are expected to be arraigned in court on Friday, over the 2016 Rio Olympics scandal.

The two had been ordered by the court to present themselves to the DCI not later than Thursday (today), for interrogations before being charged.

Wario, who is Kenya’s current Ambassador to Austria, was unavailable in court on Monday when the first suspects of the Rio fiasco were charged having been out of the country.

Keino also failed to appear in court on the material day on the same grounds.

They have been implicated in the misappropriation of over Ksh.55million that were set aside for the Rio Olympic games.

The officials are charged with making unauthorised payments, over-payment of allowances amounting to over Ksh.15 million and purchasing tickets worth Ksh.22 million which were not used by athletes or officials in the trip that was full of joyriders.

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Hajji said there is sufficient evidence  to charge the officials with misappropriation of over Ksh.55 million.

The 2016 Rio Olympics Kenya’s Chef de mission  Stephen Arap Soi and National National Olympics Committee’s FK Paul were the first to be charged over the same scandal.
