Wazito staying brave in the face of relegation

Wazito FC assistant coach Mohammed Ahmed insists the club can still turn around their season to avoid relegation from the Kenyan Premier League (KPL).

The club has marked itself out as clear relegation candidates , sitting bottom of the KPL table and are enduring a wretched run that includes eight losses in their last ten fixtures.

But Ahmed says their remaining 10 fixtures provides enough opportunity for the club to steer back to safety as they seek to avoid a straight drop to the second-tier having been promoted last term.

“We still have ten matches to go, we are still focused and in between those matches anything is possible. We had problems of not scoring enough goals but we are now capable of getting goals, only the results go against us,” Ahmed told Citizen Digital.

Wazito’s slow start to their 2018 campaign was compounded during the mid-season transfer as the club sold its top talents including striker Pistone Mutamba, winger Joe Waithira and midfielder Harun Nyakha.

Wazito lost 2-3 to Posta Rangers on Sunday and face two away fixtures to Nzoia Sugar and Thika United as their next assignment.

“We can’t wait to play Nzoia because we know what we are going to do to beat them. It will be a difficult match but the boys’ don’t want to go down; they want another top-flight season and we are confident we are staying up. You saw what they showed against Posta; determined and courageous. Luck was simply not on our side,” Ahmed emphasised.
