Wazito’s Ahmed fired-up for KPL promotion fight

Wazito FC head coach Ahmed Mohammed is relishing the challenge of guiding his club back to the Kenya Premier League (KPL) after an impressive start to the second tier league.

The Nairobi based side capitalized on Ushuru’s slip-up hitting Coast Stima 2-0 at Mbaraki Sports Club to stay on course for a KPL return, occupying second position on 24 points, two behind the former who drew 0-0 against Nairobi Stima on Friday.

Wazito were relegated from KPL last season after failing to match the vigour of the top-tier league and Ahmed who joined the Wazito at the beginning of this term is eyeing an instant return to the topflight.

Wazito will be aiming for a win when they take on Ahmed’s former employers, Modern Coast Rangers on Wednesday at Camp Toyoyo.

Speaking in the wake of their win against the Coastal based side, Ahmed reckoned he’s taking one game at a time as they eye a top two slot.

“It was a massive win against Coast Stima which for sure has underlined our KPL return dreams and we will continue giving Ushuru pressure because my team mates are focused after having a feeling of the KPL league last season,” Ahmed told Citizen Digital.

Meanwhile, Kisii based Shabana FC lost ground falling 2-1 to Kisumu All-Stars in one of five second- tier league matches played on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Fortune Sacco mustered  a 4-1 win over home side Kangemi All Stars at the Camp Toyoyo grounds.

Thika United also fell 1-3 to St Joseph Youth at the Afraha Stadium while at Camp Toyoyo, Arthur Museve’s goal was all City Stars needed to edge out Green Commandos 1-0.
