We will avenge Cameroon defeat at the right time: Wanja

Malkia Strikers setter Janet Wanja is self assured that the national women’s volleyball team will avenge the defeat they suffered in the hands of Cameroon at the African Nations Championship in Cairo, Egypt should their paths cross in the Olympic qualifiers and the All African Games.

Malkia fell 3-2 to Cameroon in the epic final but the veteran Wanja reckons their energies will shift to the forthcoming tournaments with the aim of making an impression.

“We just have to thank God for having bagged the second position, many teams wanted to be at the position two but they could not accomplish that, we live to fight another day, and if we’re to meet with them… we must revenge,” said Wanja.

Veteran middle blocker Brackside Agalla however believes that Cameroon was tough and they have to polish some few areas if they are to beat all to emerge victorious.

“We played well and we hope to even play better next time, a match going for five sets means the contest was tough,” remarked Agala.

The team will be eyeing to return to Olympics tourney set for Japan next year after a 15-year drought, with their last outing dating back to 2004 where they finished at position 11, similar to the previous and first outing in 2000.

Immediately after Italy assignment, Malkia will head to Morocco to defend their 2015 All African Games title from August 16 -30.
