Chemelil Sugar head coach Francis Baraza says his players are prepared to sweat to the last drop when they face Sony Sugar this afternoon in their final match of the 2018/19 Kenyan Premier League season in order to avoid the dreaded relegation playoff.

The millers are third last on the league table and if they lose the ‘sugar derby’ they will face third placed team in the National Super League (NSL) in a two-leg playoff to determine who gets promoted or relegated.

“This is like a final and at the same time a derby, we are facing a team that is finishing the season stronger than us, but we are determined to fight for the three points that will save us from playing in the relegation play off.

“Play offs are very unpredictable because of facing unfamiliar opponents, this is a scenario we have to sweat to our last drop,” said Baraza.

Posta Rangers and Zoo Kericho also have their own worries as they are fighting to avoid the play off as they take on Tusker FC and KCB respectively, and Rangers coach John Kamau is expecting maximum points from the brewers.

“We have been creating many chances in the previous matches and failing to convert them, in this do or die match we have to convert every chance that we create.

“Tusker is a familiar opponent who has had their own struggles this season, they also have weaknesses that we have studied and we can capitalize on to get three points,” Kamau told Citizen Digital.

With the league already won by Gor Mahia for the 18th time and Vihiga United alongside Mount Kenya United relegated, all eyes will be on who plays against third placed side in the NSL when Zoo Kericho,Posta Rangers and Chemelil Sugar face their respective opponents when  the league comes to  an end this afternoon.
